Curator's Description
Curator's DescriptionDiscover the Brioni Black Fine-Wool Vintage Double-Breasted Shadow-Stripe Suit, originally sold by Max Dietl in Munich. Max Dietl has been among the most authoritative addresses for tailored menswear in Germany for decades, the Munich retailer's selection of houses representing a considered edit of what the European tailoring tradition produces at its highest level, and Brioni has been a consistent part of that edit. A suit that passed through Max Dietl's doors carries that provenance as a secondary layer of context alongside the Roman house that made it.
The cloth is fine black wool with a shadow stripe woven into the ground at a scale and tone so close to the base colour that the stripe is invisible in most conditions, revealing itself only when the jacket is examined at close range or when the cloth shifts in the light and the stripe's slight iridescence separates it momentarily from the surrounding weave, the pattern present as a structural element rather than a visible design. Black in fine wool at this grade carries a depth and consistency that lesser cloth cannot achieve, the surface even and composed, the stripe adding a layer of interest that most observers will never find. The four-button double breasted configuration is built with the broad peak lapels that Brioni's Roman atelier produces with the precision and authority the house has applied to this detail throughout its history, the wide lapels sweeping to a high gorge and rolling to the button line in a single clean arc. Flap pockets sit at the hips. The trousers are cut straight with a double pleat at the rise, the generous leg falling cleanly from the pleat to the hem, the silhouette in keeping with the suit's vintage proportions and the double breasted's formal character.
A Brioni double breasted in black fine-wool shadow-stripe, sold through Max Dietl, is a suit assembled at every stage by people who understood exactly what they were doing.
