Brioni Green & Red Vintage Tweed-Wool Herringbone & Windowpane Jacket
50 IT / 40 US / Large
Discover the Brioni Grey Vintage Tweed-Wool Herringbone & Windowpane Jacket. Brioni has operated on Via Barberini in Rome since 1945, building its reputation on superfine wools, cashmere, and some of the most technically demanding cloth constructions available in Italian tailoring. Tweed is not the house's natural territory. The choice to work in a heavier, textured cloth of this kind is unusual enough within the Brioni archive to make the piece immediately interesting to anyone familiar with what the house typically produces, and it points to a period when the house was willing to experiment with cloth types outside its established fine-wool identity.
The cloth is a grey-green herringbone with a red windowpane overcheck running across the ground. The herringbone is the base construction, the chevron weave in grey-green giving the surface its texture and depth, and the red windowpane sits over that ground as an overcheck, the colour contrast sharp enough to read clearly against the darker base. It is a classic country and sporting cloth combination executed in a palette that is specific without being loud.
The jacket carries the black and red Brioni label with the older font, the identifier that places the piece within the house's vintage production for anyone who knows what to look for. The construction is consistent with that period: strong, structured Roman shoulders with the more pronounced, squared shoulder line that Brioni built as its signature before contemporary tailoring moved toward softer constructions. The gorge sits low, as was correct for the era, placing the lapel roll lower on the chest than modern tailoring.
The jacket closes on notch lapels with flap pockets at the hips and is fully lined throughout. A tweed jacket from Brioni's vintage production in this cloth and condition is a collector's piece in the most precise sense.
