Canali Warm Taupe & Blue Wool Windowpane Jacket

Discover the Canali Warm Taupe and Blue Wool Windowpane Jacket. The cloth is where this jacket's character lives, and it rewards attention. The ground is warm taupe, brushed to a soft, plush surface that gives the wool a tactile depth and prevents the pale tone from reading as flat, the nap catching light at a slight angle and shifting the surface between warmer and cooler readings as it does. Into this ground the windowpane is woven not in a single colour but through yarns that carry multiple tones within the same thread, the result being a check that contains chocolate brown, light blue and dark blue simultaneously, the three colours present in the overcheck's lines in a way that changes depending on the light and the angle, the windowpane reading as blue in one condition and warmer in another. Beneath the windowpane the cloth itself carries a micro-structure, a fine variation in the weave that gives the taupe ground further texture and ensures that the jacket presents as a cloth with several layers of interest rather than a simple ground with a pattern on top. The overall effect is a piece with considerable depth that reveals itself gradually rather than announcing itself immediately, the kind of cloth that a Milanese house like Canali has understood how to produce for decades. Soft padded shoulders give the jacket a gentle structure without rigidity, the Milanese approach to the shoulder sitting between the natural softness of Neapolitan construction and the harder roped shoulder of Roman or British tailoring. Notch lapels, a two-button closure and flap pockets keep the front straightforward, the jacket fully lined and made in Italy throughout.

Canali makes cloth-driven jackets with consistency and conviction. In warm taupe with a multi-tonal blue windowpane and a brushed, micro-structured wool, this one gives the cloth every reason to speak for itself.
