The cloth is a bouclé, the looped yarn construction creating a surface with a plush, slightly irregular texture that gives the glencheck pattern a softness and depth that a smooth-faced weave would flatten. Light brown provides the ground and the glen plaid runs through it, the orange arriving as the overcheck in a tone warm enough to read clearly against the brown base without tipping into contrast, the two colours working together in a cloth that presents differently depending on the light and the distance. The wool, silk, stretch and cashmere blend keeps the bouclé's natural weight manageable through the addition of stretch, the comfort and recovery that provides making the jacket as easy to wear across a full day as it is to look at.

The Aida is Caruso's regular fit, built on a drop 7 with a fully canvassed construction on a cotton, wool and horsehair canvas that gives the jacket its shape through traditional means rather than through fusing or padding. The shoulder is cut in the shirt sleeve manner, the sleeve head gathered softly into the armhole without a roped or padded structure, the jacket sitting on the shoulder with a naturalness that allows the arm to move freely. The construction is produced entirely in Caruso's atelier in Soragna. Notch lapels and a 2.5-button closure sit cleanly on the front, the lapel carrying a hand-set Milanese buttonhole worked with the fine silk stitching specific to that tradition. Jetted pockets at the hips keep the front uncluttered, the openings flush against the cloth. The jacket is half lined, the bouclé moving freely through the lower body without restriction.

Caruso makes jackets at the level of a house that has produced tailoring for many of the names the industry considers benchmarks. In light brown and orange bouclé glencheck on the Aida construction, it makes the case on its own terms.
