Curator's Description
Curator's DescriptionDiscover the Corneliani Navy Super 160's Herringbone Three-Piece Suit, a proposition in pure cloth quality dressed in one of tailoring's most enduring configurations. The herringbone weave in navy is a pattern of quiet sophistication, the chevron structure giving the surface a directional depth and movement that plain weaves cannot produce, shifting subtly as the wearer moves and lending the navy an additional dimension that flat cloths simply flatten out of existence. The cloth itself is the central argument: at 15.75 microns, this is Super 160's wool, a fibre count that places it among the finest wools produced anywhere in the world, the individual fibres so exceptionally thin that the resulting cloth achieves a softness and fluidity that must be felt to be properly understood. It is a cloth that drapes with an almost liquid quality, pressing to a clean, sharp edge when required and recovering its natural line with equal ease. Notch lapels and a two-button closure keep the jacket honest and uncluttered, mother of pearl buttons introducing a quiet luminosity against the navy that horn buttons approach differently, and flap pockets complete a front of considered simplicity. The waistcoat adds a layer of formal intention that transforms the suit from accomplished to genuinely complete, and the trousers, finished with side adjusters and a turn-up, are cut with the kind of trouser-maker's intelligence that understands the leg as a separate and equally considered element of the whole.
Corneliani has been working from Mantua since 1958 with a consistent and quietly confident commitment to cloth quality as the foundation of everything it produces. A Super 160's herringbone in a three-piece configuration represents the house working at the upper register of its range, the fibre count and the weave structure both chosen for what they contribute to the wearing experience rather than for what they communicate on a swing tag. At 15.75 microns the wool is extraordinary by any objective measure, and in a navy herringbone three-piece made in Mantua it is given precisely the context it deserves: serious, considered, and built to be worn rather than preserved.
