The "120" on the label and the name are the same fact stated two ways: Centoventimila is Italian for 120,000, referring to the yarn's tex value, the measurement by which one kilogram of this wool stretches to 120,000 meters of thread. Ermenegildo Zegna developed the fabric in 1961 at the house's Trivero wool mill in Biella, using the finest Australian fibres sourced through direct relationships with farmers, the resulting cloth weighing just 250 grams per metre at a time when comparable fabrics ran to 350 grams, a reduction achieved not through compromise but through the exceptional fineness of the yarn itself. The cloth is silky and dry to the touch, with a lightness that makes its formality feel effortless rather than demanding. The Couture line represents Zegna's highest tier of production, every element of the jacket executed by hand: the construction, the buttonholes, and critically the Milanese buttonhole worked through both lapels, a hand-stitching technique specific to the Milanese tailoring tradition in which the buttonhole is worked with fine silk thread in a close, precise stitch that no machine replicates, its presence on the lapel being the mark of a fully handmade garment. The burgundy check reads with warmth and depth across the Centoventimila cloth, the pattern resolving quietly into the surface rather than sitting on top of it. Notch lapels, a 2-button closure, flap pockets and a half lining complete the construction.

Ermenegildo Zegna built the Centoventimila fabric as the realisation of a lifelong ambition to produce the world's finest cloth. The Couture line built jackets around it with the full weight of the house's handwork. This is both at once.

Zegna werd in 1910 opgericht in Trivero, Italië, door een jonge ondernemer genaamd Ermenegildo - hij was de jongste van Angelo Zegna's 10 kinderen.
