Zegna werd in 1910 opgericht in Trivero, Italië, door een jonge ondernemer genaamd Ermenegildo - hij was de jongste van Angelo Zegna's 10 kinderen. Angelo, van beroep horlogemaker, was begonnen met het weven van wol met behulp van vier weefgetouwen.
