Lardini Brown & Multicolor Wool Tartan Jacket

Discover the Lardini Brown and Multicolor Wool Tartan Jacket. The cloth carries several layers of pattern built on top of each other in the manner of a traditional tartan construction. The base is a Prince of Wales check in brown, the ground's diagonal structure giving the weave its foundation, and across this three overchecks run simultaneously: light blue, mustard yellow and red, each colour crossing the brown ground at its own interval and intersecting with the others to produce the characteristic tartan grid where the lines meet and overlap in combinations that create additional colours at their crossings. The result is a cloth with considerable visual depth, the brown undertone anchoring all three overcheck colours and preventing the combination from reading as discordant, the warmth of the mustard and the red sitting naturally against the brown while the light blue introduces the contrast that gives the tartan its energy. At distance the jacket reads as a warm, multicoloured cloth with a brown bias; up close the full architecture of the pattern reveals itself.

Lardini built its reputation in Filottrano producing jackets of genuine quality for its own label and for others, and this vintage piece reflects the house's understanding of how a bold cloth should be handled: with a construction relaxed enough that the cloth does the talking. Notch lapels and a two-button closure keep the front clean and unimposing, patch pockets at the hips in the sporting register the tartan invites. Horn buttons are set throughout, the natural material correct for a cloth this rooted in the British country tradition. The jacket is completely unlined, the wool sitting directly against whatever is worn beneath it, the construction as open and uncomplicated as the cloth's character demands.

A brown Prince of Wales with light blue, mustard and red overchecks is a jacket that requires no further explanation of its intentions.
