Cashmere and silk in a flannel construction is an unusual proposition: flannel is traditionally a wool cloth, its defining quality the brushing of the surface fibres to create a soft, matte, slightly raised face, and in cashmere the same process produces something in an entirely different register. The handle is extraordinary, closer to a fine cashmere knitwear or a duvet than to any suiting fabric one might have encountered, the fibres so fine and so thoroughly raised that the cloth gives slightly under the hand and recovers immediately, the softness not a surface quality but a property running through the full depth of the construction. The silk running through the cashmere prevents the flannel from becoming too heavy or too yielding, adding a quiet structural memory and a subtle luminosity that lifts the steel blue ground and gives the chalkstripe the conditions it needs to be seen clearly.
