The glenplaid is built on a taupe ground, and at any normal distance that is what the jacket appears to be: a warm, sophisticated neutral, the kind of tone that coordinates with everything and commits to nothing. It is only when the cloth is examined closely that the ice blue reveals itself, woven into the overcheck of the glen pattern at a density and scale so restrained that it functions less as a colour statement than as a quality of light within the cloth, the blue shifting the taupe slightly toward cool without declaring itself. This is a piece of cloth design of the highest order: a pattern that offers one reading from a distance and another entirely up close, the second rewarding whoever notices it without demanding that they do. Wool, silk and linen in combination give the cloth the breath and drape that a pure suiting weight would not permit, the silk adding a quiet luminosity to the taupe ground and the linen keeping the hand light and the weight honest. The construction is purely Neapolitan and entirely by hand: doppio impuntura pick stitching runs in a double row along the lapels and edges, the two parallel lines of hand stitching marking the boundary between the cloth and what lies beneath it with a precision that only handwork achieves. Handmade buttonholes, horn buttons, patch pockets, notch lapels and a two-and-a-half button stance complete a jacket built the way the great Neapolitan houses have always built them. Half lined. Volledige canvasconstructie
Een kleermakersjasje - of jas - heeft een tussenvoering nodig die helpt om het vorm te geven en te vormen. Canvas geeft het item een op maat gemaakte en ambachtelijke look. La Spalla Camicia
"Spalla Camicia" vertaalt zich ruwweg naar 'overhemd mouw' in het Italiaans en is een schouderstijl gecreëerd en populair gemaakt door Neapolitaanse kleermakers. De naam 'overhemdmouw' werd zo genoemd vanwege het karakteristieke gerimpelde effect dat te vinden is bij de kop van de mouw, waar de volheid van de grotere mouw in elkaar zakt. In plaats van de kop van de mouw naar achteren te vouwen en binnenstebuiten te stikken, wordt de kop ondergeschoven en langs de bovenkant gestikt.
Handgemaakt Knoopsgat
Handgemaakte knoopsgaten worden gemaakt met behulp van een ketting van geknoopte lussen, genaamd festonsteken, die ze sterk en visueel onderscheidend maken. The doppio impuntura or ‘double pick stitching’. It is made as a backstitch, which is a highly time consuming process that looks like a little dot on the surface of the fabric. The doppio impuntura runs throughout the sides of the lapel, collar, pockets and shoulder seam. As a visible detail of handwork, it can be seen as the ultimate touch of elegance.
2.5 Knoops Sluiting
De 'tre bottoni stirato a due', ook bekend als de drie rollend op twee reversstijl, is misschien wel het meest beruchte kenmerk van het Neapolitaanse stijl jasje. De bovenste knoop en knoopsgat zijn decoratief, dus blijven ongeknoopt. Terwijl de revers omlaag rolt, vouwt het elegant over de bovenste knoop en stopt net 4 cm boven de tweede knoop, wat de kenmerkende rol van de revers creëert waar de stijl om bekend staat. Omdat het bedoeld is om ongeknoopt te blijven, wordt het bovenste knoopsgat eigenlijk binnenstebuiten gemaakt, zodat de mooie kant nog steeds zichtbaar is.
