Kiton Dark Grey Fine-Wool Puppytooth Vintage Straight-Fit Suit

Discover the Kiton Dark Grey Fine-Wool Puppytooth Straight-Fit Suit. Puppytooth is a scaled-down houndstooth, built on the same broken twill weave construction but at a fraction of the size, producing a pattern that reads as a textured near-solid from any normal viewing distance. The detail here is only apparent on close inspection: a puppytooth in dark grey ground with both burgundy and dark blue woven through the pattern, a level of colour complexity in the cloth that is characteristic of the finest Italian suiting fabrics and entirely invisible until you look for it.

This is a vintage Kiton piece produced for the American market and sold through Bergdorf Goodman in New York. Kiton has historically tailored its American-market production to suit the preferences of that customer, which in this period meant a straighter, less Neapolitan silhouette than the house's domestic Italian production. The result is a suit that carries Kiton's cloth quality and construction standard within a fit that departs from the typical spalla camicia, soft-shoulder Neapolitan template. For a collector of the brand, that distinction is precisely the point of the piece.

The jacket closes at 2.5 buttons on notch lapels, with flap pockets, a ticket pocket, and full lining throughout. The trousers run wide and straight from a double pleat, finishing with a turn-up at the hem. That configuration, double pleat with wide straight leg and turn-up, is the correct trouser for a suit of this vintage and silhouette, and it reads today as a considered vintage fit rather than a dated one.

A Bergdorf Goodman Kiton suit from this period in this condition and colourway is a specific find for a specific buyer.

The repairs are subtle and not visible during normal wear, though they can be seen upon close inspection (see final image in the gallery). Noted for full transparency and reflected in the price, without detracting from the beauty and character of this vintage suit.
