When Valstar reinterpreted it for the civilian market in 1935, they became the first house to translate military outerwear into luxury ready-to-wear, elevating the construction and the materials while preserving the silhouette that made the A1 an enduring reference point. This version is built from black deerskin in a grained leather that carries the characteristic suppleness and fine texture of the hide, pressed to the precise thickness Valstar requires from their Tuscan tanneries, each panel hand-cut from a jacket that can comprise up to twenty individual elements. The lining is Loro Piana Cashmere Award, the house's designation for cashmere at the upper register of their offering, the kind of material that makes the inside of a jacket as considered as the outside. Ribbed knit trims at collar, cuffs and hem, button closures throughout and hand-sewn buttonholes complete the construction in the manner Valstar has held to since the beginning.
