Bontoni was founded in Montegranaro in the Marche region in 2004 by Franco Gazzani, a third-generation shoemaker whose grandfather and father made custom shoes for a private clientele under no label for decades before the house was formalised. Nine artisans produce just 3,800 pairs a year, each taking fourteen weeks and nearly 26 working hours to complete, a pace and scale that makes Bontoni one of the last genuinely artisanal shoemaking workshops remaining in Italy. The Diamante, with its diagonal curved strap and 105 last, is among the house's most distinctive and recognisable models, a shoe that the serious collector and the instinctive dresser are drawn to for the same reason.
