Max Dietl has been among the most authoritative addresses for tailored menswear in Germany for decades, the Munich retailer's selection of houses representing a considered edit of what the European tailoring tradition produces at its highest level, and Brioni has been a consistent part of that edit. A suit that passed through Max Dietl's doors carries that provenance as a secondary layer of context alongside the Roman house that made it.
The cloth is fine black wool with a shadow stripe woven into the ground at a scale and tone so close to the base colour that the stripe is invisible in most conditions, revealing itself only when the jacket is examined at close range or when the cloth shifts in the light and the stripe's slight iridescence separates it momentarily from the surrounding weave, the pattern present as a structural element rather than a visible design.
