Curator's DescriptionDiscover the Cesare Attolini Dark Brown Wool-Flannel Vintage-Stripe Suit, Private Label for M.Bardelli Milano. The cloth is a wool flannel of proper fall-winter weight, the kind that has enough substance to drape with authority from the shoulder while retaining the characteristic soft, slightly napped surface that makes flannel one of the most satisfying fabrics to wear through the colder months. The stripe is a study in visual deception: from across a room it reads as a bold vintage stripe in the tradition of the great chalk-stripe suitings, wide and confident against the dark brown ground. Up close it resolves into three pinpoint stripes grouped in close formation, the individual lines fine and precise, the width achieved through proximity rather than through any single heavy thread, a construction that gives the pattern a complexity and refinement that a conventional broad stripe does not carry. This suit was produced by Cesare Attolini as a private label commission for M.Bardelli, the historic menswear institution on Corso Magenta in Milan that has been dressing the Milanese since 1946, the house commissioning Neapolitan construction and Attolini's handwork under its own name in the tradition of the great Italian retailers who understood that the best way to offer something exclusive was to go directly to the source. Notch lapels, a 2.5-button closure and flap pockets govern the jacket, and the trousers are cut in a regular fit with a double pleat, the fuller silhouette in keeping with the flannel's weight and the suit's overall vintage sensibility.
A private label Attolini for Bardelli is a specific object: Neapolitan craft filtered through Milanese taste, the suit carrying both cities' understanding of what a dark brown flannel stripe should be.
Note: This is a "New Old Stock" piece, originally made by Cesare Attolini for M. Bardelli in Milan. The Attolini brand labels have been removed for an unknown reason. Its characteristic sartorial construction, finishing details and remaining size label, featuring Attolini's distinctive typography and styling, support its origin. Based on years of experience handling Attolini garments, we confidently confirm its authenticity.
