Only on close inspection does the full picture emerge: the houndstooth pattern resolved within the boucle construction, the broken check present but softened by the looped texture into something atmospheric rather than geometric, and within that, the azure blue neps scattered through the cloth like small interruptions of lighter tone, flecks of colour that explain the indigo's particular luminosity without announcing themselves from any distance. The silk content is what makes all of this possible: running through the wool boucle it adds the sheen that allows the neps to catch the light and the houndstooth to read through a surface that would otherwise obscure it, the two fibres working together to produce a cloth of genuine complexity.
