Corneliani Blue Wool Micro-Pattern Windowpane Gate Jacket
52 IT / 42 US / Large
Discover the Corneliani Blue Wool Micro-Pattern Windowpane Gate Jacket. The cloth is built from several layers of pattern operating simultaneously, each at a different scale, the combination producing a surface with more depth than any single element would achieve alone. The ground carries a speckled blue pinpoint, the fine dots distributed through the blue base as a micro-texture that gives the wool its first layer of visual complexity, and across this white pinpoints run as a second register at the same fine scale, the two tones of pinpoint together creating a cloth that reads as more dimensional than a plain weave at the same colour while remaining entirely composed at any normal viewing distance. The windowpane is then constructed as a doubled line, each side of the grid formed by two parallel threads rather than one, the double construction giving the check a subtle presence and a weight on the surface that a single-line windowpane would not carry, the pattern legible and precise without imposing itself over the pinpoint ground beneath it. The total effect is a cloth that reveals itself in stages, the casual eye reading blue wool, the attentive eye finding the pinpoint structure, and the close inspection finding the doubled windowpane running through everything.
The Gate is one of Corneliani's named fits, the jacket built with the house's characteristic Italian construction and proportion. Two-button closure and patch pockets keep the front in a relaxed, uncluttered register suited to the cloth's character, the functioning buttonholes at the cuff worked through the sleeve in the traditional manner. The jacket is fully lined throughout.
Corneliani makes cloth-driven jackets that justify sustained attention. In blue wool with a speckled pinpoint ground and a doubled windowpane, the attention is well spent.
