The one-piece collar is among the oldest and most technically demanding constructions in shirtmaking: rather than being built from a separate collar stand and collar leaf joined together, the collar is cut as a single continuous piece of cloth that extends downward to form the placket of the shirt simultaneously, the collar and the front of the shirt being one and the same piece of fabric with no seam between them and no interlining to add stiffness.
