Luigi Borrelli Beige Heavyweight-Cashmere Herringbone Jacket
52 IT / 42 US / Large
Discover the Luigi Borrelli Beige Heavyweight Cashmere Herringbone Jacket. This is another piece from the golden era of Borrelli production, and the hand work is again the evidence. The doppio impuntura runs along the lapel edges and seams as a double row of pick-stitching, each line placed by hand with the slight, honest variation in spacing that distinguishes a stitch sewn under tension by a craftsman from the mechanical regularity of a machine, the doubled row more emphatic than a single pick-stitch and more demanding to execute, the detail visible along every edge of the jacket as a continuous record of the time and attention invested in its making. Hand-set buttonholes at the cuff are worked with the same conviction, the stitching close and finished individually in the manner the house applied consistently during this period regardless of where the detail would be seen.
The cloth is heavyweight cashmere in a herringbone construction, the V-shaped weave running through the beige ground with a directional depth that gives the surface a movement and a character that a plain weave at the same colour would not carry. Heavyweight cashmere is a different proposition from the lightweight suiting cashmere the fibre is more commonly associated with in a jacket context, the cloth carrying a body and a plushness that makes the jacket feel substantial in the hand and warm and present on the body, the herringbone amplifying the surface depth of a fibre already rich in tactile character. Beige in heavyweight cashmere reads as a natural, warm tone that suits both the cloth's weight and the herringbone's country register, the colour sitting at the point where ivory meets tan without committing to either.
Notch lapels and a 2.5-button closure keep the front clean, patch pockets at the hips in keeping with the jacket's relaxed construction. The jacket is half lined, the cashmere breathing freely through the lower body.
Luigi Borrelli in its golden era put double pick-stitching on a heavyweight cashmere herringbone jacket and hand-set every buttonhole. That is what the era looked like.
