Orazio Luciano Navy Cashmere & Silk Safari-Style Herringbone Jacket
52 IT / 42 US / Large
Discover the Orazio Luciano Navy Cashmere and Silk Safari-Style Herringbone Jacket. Orazio Luciano works in the Neapolitan tradition at the level of a house that applies genuinely handmade construction to cloths of genuine quality, and this vintage piece reflects both. Cashmere and silk in combination for a safari-style jacket is a choice that redirects a utilitarian silhouette toward something entirely different in its material register, the cashmere giving the cloth a soft, warm hand and the silk introducing a quiet surface luminosity that lifts the navy herringbone ground beyond what either fibre would produce alone. The herringbone runs through the navy in the directional V-shaped repeat that gives the weave its characteristic depth and surface movement, the pattern present as texture rather than contrast, the cloth reading as a considered navy with complexity rather than as a patterned cloth announcing itself. The jacket is completely unlined and lightweight, the cloth sitting directly against the body with the freedom and breathability that only an unlined construction allows.
The spalla camicia shoulder is the Neapolitan house's fundamental construction statement, the sleeve head gathered softly into the armhole without padding or roping, the shoulder following the body's own line rather than imposing a shape upon it. The safari silhouette introduces its own structural details above this foundation: an extra shoulder strap sits across each shoulder in the manner specific to the military-inspired safari tradition, the detail functional in origin and distinctive in appearance, and a horizontal back yoke divides the upper back cleanly, the seam running across the shoulders and giving the jacket's back both structure and a visual proportion that a plain single-panel back does not carry. Four bellows pockets are set into the front, two at the chest and two at the hips, each constructed with an accordion pleat that allows the pocket to expand when carrying and to sit flat when empty, each closed with a flap and a button in the correct configuration for the safari genre. A Neapolitan buttonhole is hand-worked through the left notch lapel, the stitching close and precise in the manner specific to the Neapolitan atelier tradition. The 2.5-button closure completes the front.
Orazio Luciano brings Neapolitan hand construction to a safari silhouette in cashmere and silk. The combination should not work as well as it does.
