Curator's DescriptionDiscover the Sartoria Voglio Grey 4-Seasons Wool and Cashmere Sharkskin Sartorial Trousers. Sharkskin is among the most visually distinctive weave structures in suiting cloth, the construction achieved by alternating light and dark yarns in a fine twill that produces a surface with an inherent iridescence, the two tones shifting against each other as the cloth moves, the grey reading lighter or darker depending on the angle of the light and the position of the wearer. The effect is subtle rather than showy, the sharkskin's depth emerging gradually rather than announcing itself, the cloth presenting as a composed, tonal grey at rest and revealing its full character in motion. A small proportion of cashmere is introduced into the wool base not to alter the sharkskin's behaviour or drape in any dramatic way but to refine the hand at the level that only a connoisseur's touch would identify, the fibre contributing a softness of surface and a warmth of feel that pure wool at the same weight does not carry, the cashmere present as a quiet upgrade rather than a defining characteristic. The 4-seasons weight places the cloth in the range that performs across the full year, substantial enough for autumn and winter without the heaviness that makes a trouser uncomfortable in the warmer months, the wool and cashmere construction holding a clean line through every season it is asked to serve.
The trousers are cut with a single pleat at the rise, the pleat opening cleanly into the leg and allowing the sharkskin to drape with the fullness the cloth's iridescent surface rewards. Silver side adjusters sit at the extended waistband, the tone cool and appropriate against the grey ground. The button closure rise and the hand-finished extended waistband complete the construction in keeping with everything else Sartoria Voglio brings to a trouser of this quality.
Sharkskin in wool and cashmere at a 4-seasons weight is a cloth that works harder than it appears to. So do these trousers.
