Curator's DescriptionDiscover the Cesare Attolini Navy Golden Bale Merino Wool Blazer Jacket, a piece whose cloth demands to be understood before anything else is considered. Golden Bale is the designation given by Lumb's, the British wool merchant, to the finest merino fleeces selected annually at the Australian wool auctions, where Lumb's buyers have spent over a century searching bale by bale for wool of exceptional fineness and character. What distinguishes Golden Bale from the grades above and below it is precisely what it does not carry: no Super 120's or Super 150's numerical designation, no reference to micron count or yarn grade, because Lumb's position is that the finest wools sit beyond what a number can adequately describe. The bales are hand-sorted after selection, spun into yarn with an expertise accumulated across multiple generations, and woven by a small group of mills chosen specifically for their ability to do justice to the raw material. The result is a cloth that feels immediately different from any numerically graded merino: plushy and springy rather than smooth and cool, the fibres retaining a liveliness and a tactile presence that the finest ultra-high count wools sacrifice in the pursuit of surface refinement. Navy in Golden Bale merino carries a warmth and a depth that the same colour in a conventional suiting cloth does not quite achieve, the wool's character giving the blue a richness that rewards wearing. The jacket is built entirely by hand in Naples, notch lapels, a two-and-a-half button stance, and the distinctive patch pocket configuration on the left breast, a full patch pocket with a second smaller patch pocket sitting within it, horn buttons and handmade buttonholes throughout, fully lined.
